  2009 - 2010 School Year

Dear New Fourth Grader,

Welcome to 4A! I hope you are as excited to be in 4A as I am to have you. I just wanted to write you a little note to let you know that I will be thinking of you and our class over the summer.

There are a few things that you can do over vacation that will help you keep the skills you learned in 3rd grade. First, you should READ every single day for at least 10 minutes. Read out loud to your parents, brothers, sisters, or read to your pets—to anyone or anything that will listen. Secondly, practice your multiplication skills a couple times a week. Every fourth grader is expected to know their multiplication facts up to and including the 5s by the beginning of school.

When your parents or guardians start school shopping in August, here is a list of things that we will use during the year. The state of West Virginia says that we cannot require these items, but we may suggest them.

1. Four 1-subject spiral notebooks for science, social studies, reading and music
2. Pencil case for pens, crayons, markers, scotch tape, glue and scissors. The soft cases do better in our table desks.
3. Loose leaf notebook paper
4. Tennis shoes for P.E.
5. Dry erase markers for each semester
6. Clorox or Lysol sanitary wipes for sanitation of the classroom
7. One box of tissues
8. Assignment notebooks will be provided for grades 4 - 6 next year by the school. All grades will get the plastic folder communicators provided also
.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Debbie Thompson
