"Pendleton County Schools, Law Enforcement and I-Safe Work Together to Protect Children Through Internet Safety"

WHO: Pendleton County Schools, Law Enforcement and i-SAFE America — a nonprofit, government funded, Internet safety foundation that teaches children how to surf the web safely.

WHAT: Parent Awareness Program -A group of educators and law enforcement join together to raise awareness of Internet safety throughout the schools and the community.

WHERE: Pendleton County Middle-High School Auditorium

WHEN: February 16, 2006 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

WHY: By 2005 in the United States, over 77 million children ages 5-17 will regularly use the Internet.

A recent i-SAFE America study reveals 40 percent of children — an estimated 19.2 million —do not discuss Internet safety with their parents.

The same number says if their parents knew where they were online or with whom they chatted with online they "would have concerns."

America's children are best protected from Internet dangers by learning the skills to act responsibly as cybercitizens and the wisdom to navigate online safely.

Children who are online without Internet safety training are at high risk of becoming victims of Internet-related crimes.

All this, along with Internet basics, protection of intellectual property rights, piracy issues, hackers, and identity theft, is covered in the i-SAFE America workshops.
