3 December 2007 -
Retirement Incentive
State
code {§18-2-2(g)} provides for a $500
bonus to classroom teachers who provide
written notification to the Board of Education prior to the
first day of February of their intention to retire from their
positions at the conclusion of
the current school year (2007-08).
In
addition, the local school board policy
exists for persons who state their intent to
retire, but who do not meet eligibility
requirements until after the end
of the current school year (2007-08).
This policy of the Board is to extend the $500 bonus to classroom
teachers who submit a written notification of their intent to
retire by no later than October 1 of the new school year (2008-09).
This notification must also be received prior to February 1
of the current school term (2007-08) which will allow the Board
sufficient time to recruit a replacement for the retiring teacher. |

Re: Sick Leave Bank
What is a "Sick Leave Bank"? A Sick Leave
Bank is a voluntary employee benefit program developed to
provide additional leave to employees who have suffered a
serious illness or injury after they have exhausted their
own leave.
Please read the
sick
leave bank policy (5 pgs. 127kb) approved by the Board
of Education at last night's meeting.
To enroll in the sick leave, forms must be submitted
to the payroll department by S30 September of the current
school year. Example: For fiscal year 2008, forms must be
submitted by 30 September 2007.
Please call either J. P. or Vicki with any questions
or you may e-mail us at jmowery@access.k12.wv.us

27 March 2007 Memo
To: Substitute Custodians and Cooks
From: Vicki Hammer Re: Half Days
This memo is to clear up some confusion on
what constitutes half days vs. full days for service subs and
what it includes. Substitutes working one half day should work
3½ hours without a lunch break. Anything over 3½
hours is considered a full day and a lunch break is allowed. |

19 January 2006 Memo
To: All Employees From: Vicki Hammer
Re: WV State Tax Changes
Please note on your WV State
Tax withholding that the rates have changed. West Virginia has
added a "Two Earner / Two or More Jobs" tax table
which withholds more state tax. In most cases the increase is
NOT significant. All employees will have withholdings based
on the new tax tables (higher) unless a new WV Withholding Certificate
is completed, with option 5 selected.
The easiest way to see how the change will affect you
withholding is to compare this check with the December 20th
check. This will not work for substitutes or for regular employees
with different amounts of supplemental pay.
To have a lesser amount withheld, mark #5 on the Withholding
Certificate. Also remember to put the total number of exemptions
on line 4 even if you are not changing them. Some of you currently
have an additional amount withheld each paycheck. Should you
wish to add or change this amount you will need to complete
the new form. To remove the additional withholding, simply send
me a signed and dated note to that effect.
Make sure to sign and date the new Certificate if
you are making changes.

September 2005 - Pay Raise Legislation
Joe Panetta, of the Office of School Finance, explains the
pay raise legislation passed recently. The salary increases
for the current year are effective the first day of the second
quarter of each employee's employment term, which is November
1 for a majority of teachers. That means that professionals
will receive an across-the-board increase of $1,013 this year,
and service professionals will receive an across-the-board
increase of $675 this year. Read
the entire explanation.

18 February 2005 Memo
To: All Employees From: Vicki Hammer Re: How PEIA
insurance affects retirement
Most of you are aware that when you
retire accrued sick and annual leave may be used to extend your
employer paid insurance coverage or to increase retirement benefits.
What you may not realize is that if you do not carry at least
the PEIA basic life insurance these two options are not available
to you.
Employees hired on or after July 1, 2001 are not
eligible to use leave to extend paid insurance coverage but
may use it to increase retirement benefits. We have made every
effort to contact those that have no PEIA coverage so they can
take advantage of the Basic Life Insurance at no cost to them.
However, if you are unsure of your current coverage please feel
free to contact me
and verify that you are covered at least under the Basic Life
Plan. |
