| Aries Technology |
|
| This program introduces
students to the wide-ranging and exciting world of computer technology.
Aries Technology has established a highly industry regarded reputation
by providing schools, colleges and universities with the highest quality
character education in information technology (IT), medical and workforce
development programs.
Aries teaches beyond conveying the information required
to pass industry endorsed certification tests. Aries curricula prepares
students for a successful career in the IT workforce, teaching valuable
troubleshooting, research and technical skills. All of the courses
are well-designed and are useful for students desiring to enter
the IT arena.
Students gain knowledge and experience in working
with server operating systems, typical software applications, and
diagnosing and troubleshooting; power supplies, motherboard components,
RAM, expansion cards, printers, monitors, networking equipment,
and other computer hardware in non-vender-specific environments.
The following courses are offered:
Applications for Network and Hardware
[1st Grading Period] - This course
introduces students to the layers of the OSI model, describes the
features and functions of network components and provides the skills
needed to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware
peripherals and protocols.
Basic Systems Operation and Application
[2nd grading period] - This course provides the knowledge and
skills to identify, install, configure and upgrade computer operating
systems, as well as safety and preventive maintenance procedures.
Also included will be specific terminology, categories and principles
of computer operating systems and diagnosing and troubleshooting
common operating system malfunctions.
Computer Construction [3rd grading
period]- This course provides the knowledge and skills to identify,
install, configure and upgrade microcomputer modeling and peripherals,
safety and preventive maintenance procedures. Also included are
specific terminology, categories and principles of motherboard,
procedures and memory in microcomputer systems. Diagnosing and troubleshooting
common model and system malfunctions networking concepts are also
included.
Server and Network Operations [4th grading
period] - This course introduces students to network operating
systems, security models, administrative responsibilities, and the
network operating systems troubleshooting.

Automotive Technology
|

The Automotive Technology
program is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding
of the modern automobile. Through classroom study, audiovisual presentations,
and actual "hands-on" performance tasks, students learn
the procedures necessary for the proper diagnosis and repair of the
modern automobile of today.

| Diversified Cooperative
Education |
|
| Diversified Cooperative
Training Program (DCT) is an area of study designed to provide students
with a wide range of basic attitudes, knowledge, and skills essential
for job success. DCT Work Experience is a method of instruction for
students to receive on-the-job training that contributes to the over-all
instructional program. The instruction, through written agreement
between school and employers, is a combination of study in school
with employment in the appropriate field. The related classroom instruction
and on-the-job experiences are planned and supervised by employers
and teacher coordinator to complete the student's education as to
his/her career objectives. The emphasis in this class is preparing
you to become a functioning member of the work force or, in some cases,
helping you decide that you would like to further your educational
training.
DCT is open only to high school seniors working and
attending school. This is a student-friendly class. If students
do what is reasonably expected of them attend class and maintain
regular work hours they'll have no trouble. They are given
a privilege of not attending traditional class for one-half of the
school day. To keep this privilege, students must play by the rules.
Once a week they will attend class at the South Branch Career and
Technical Center. A minimum of 15 hours of work per week is required.
SBCTC has a very specific attendance policy. Failure to adhere to
these rules will take away the student's choice to leave school
and work.
Preregistration is held in the spring of the student's
junior year. All enrolled students must have an occupation prior to
the first class meeting. All jobs must be pre-approved by the instructor.

| Electrical Technology |
|
The
Electrical Technology program is designed to provide students with
a thorough understanding of electrical installation. Through classroom
study, audiovisual presentations, and actual hands-on performance
tasks, students will learn the procedures necessary to become
an accomplished electrician.

| Finance and Accounting |
|
| Accounting
Principles I - This course prepares students with the basic principles
of the accounting cycle. Students study the basic principles, concepts
and practices of the accounting cycle, which includes financial statements,
banking, payroll, business ownership and an accounting career orientation.
Accounting plays a vital role in the day-to-day activities of every
business.
Accounting Principles II - This course
provides students with the opportunity to develop advanced knowledge
of accounting procedures and techniques utilized in problem solving
and in making financial decisions and analysis. Students study the
advance principles, concepts and practices of the accounting cycle
that includes financial statements, banking, payroll, partnerships,
corporation, cost of accounting, inventory and tax accounting.
Introduction to Business and Marketing
- Introduction to Business and Marketing introduces students to
the world of business and helps them prepare for the economic roles
of consumer, worker and citizen. This course also serves as a background
for other business courses students may take in high school and
in college, assists them with consumer decision making, prepares
them for future employment, and helps them effectively fulfill their
responsibilities as a citizen.
Business Computer Applications I
- Students enrolling in this course learn to manipulate Microsoft
Office XP2003 software to prepare practically any document associated
with today's business office transactions. Those with previous knowledge
of Microsoft Office are allowed to quickly progress to the more advanced
features of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. A realistic
approach to mastering and using application software is utilized while
learning the skills necessary to compete in today's complex business
world.

| General Building Construction |
|
The General Building
Construction program is designed to provide students with a thorough
understanding of building construction. Through classroom study, audiovisual
presentations, and actual hands-on performance tasks, students will
learn the procedures necessary to become an accomplished carpenter.
|
|
| Health Occupations |
|
| The Health Occupations
program is designed to provide students with a general understanding
of the health field. Students will be given the opportunity to learn
basic health care skills needed in health occupations. The students
will be given the opportunity to work in a long-term care facility.
They will be at the clinical site two to three days a week with several
days being designated for the classroom, so that the discussion of
clinical experiences and further study of knowledge and skills related
to the selected specialty may occur.
The Certified Nursing Assistant class (CNA) will
be offered to high school juniors, seniors and Post-Secondary Adults.
This program will be offered as a 1-year program. This class will
give students an opportunity to explore and understand medical careers
and will better enable them to develop entry-level skills in their
chosen health field. Seniors will be given first priority in this
program.
Students should have a sincere desire to care
for the sick and the injured, and to practice and teach preventive
medicine.

| Industrial Maintenance |
|
| Training
will provide students an opportunity to develop a broad-based set
of skills in the areas of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and mechanical
maintenance. To meet the needs of local businesses, industries and
the labor market, SBCTC will continue to provide customized training
as requested.
Electrical Maintenance, Fundamentals of Industrial
Equipment Maintenance, and Hydraulics and Pneumatic Systems will comprise
the program. These courses will be offered each year on an open entry-open
exit approach.

| Masonry |

The Masonry program
is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of masonry
construction. Through classroom study, audiovisual presentations,
and actual hands-on performance tasks, students will learn the procedures
necessary to become an accomplished mason.

|
| Welding Technology |
|
The Welding Technology
program is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding
of the welding field. Through hands-on performance tasks, classroom
study, and audiovisual presentations, students will learn the procedures
necessary to become an accomplished welder.
|

|
| A high school
student can earn three or four vocational credits during each year
at South Branch Career and Technical Center. If a student completes
the two-year vocational program with a "C" average in the
course and has kept his/her absences to 20 days or less, a special
vocational diploma is issued in additional to the high school diploma.
At the successful completion of the training program, the student
will receive a certificate detailing this training program, which
can be shown when applying for a job. |
