This past week, fifteen members, Jax Bennett, Callie Dunn, Sam Eason, Lani Fertig, Katie Heavner, Lydia Heavner, Ty Heavner, McKenna Hedrick, Wyatt Hinkle, Ella Johnston, Katie Keyser, Gena Lambert, Phoebe Pownell, Kaylee Teter, Makayla Tingler, and of the Pendleton County FFA Chapter attended and competed at the 97th Annual WV FFA State Convention at Cedar Lakes in Ripley, WV.

The Conduct of Meeting Team consisting of Bennett, Dunn, Eason, K. Heavner, Keyser, Pownell and Teter started off the week on Tuesday, July 8th with their written exam.

Opening day, Wednesday, July 9, was filled with new experiences, more competition and of course the 1st session of the 97th WV State FFA Convention. The Parliamentary Procedure Team consisting of Fertig, L Heavner, Hedrick, Lambert, Johnston and Tingler; and L Heavner in Prepared Speech all completed in the first round.

L Heavner earned a spot in the final round on Thursday, July 10. T. Heavner and Hinkle also competed in the Tractor Driving Contest in the zero-turn lawnmower division.  

K. Heavner, L. Heavner, and Keyser served as the chapter's voting delegates during the business meeting.

The results are in:

  • Ty Heavner earned 1st Place in the zero-turn lawnmower division

  • Lydia Heavner earned 3rd Place with her Prepared Speech

  • The Conduct of Meeting Team earned 4th Place

  • Wyatt Hinkle earned 9th Place in the zero-turn lawnmower division

The following members were recognized for earning their State Degrees: Gena Lambert and Jameigh Miller.

Bailee Kiger received recognition for being an American Degree Candidate.

The Chapter received recognition for being a National Chapter program. If approved on the national level, the chapter will be recognized at the National Convention in October.
