Math Supplies

Calculator:  The calculator they purchased in middle school will be fine for this class.  If you need to purchase another one, then you should purchase a Texas Instrument TI-30XIIS.  This calculator has all the functions that your child will need for their high school math classes.  It also will work well when taking the standardized state tests, as well as, the ACT and SAT college entrance tests.  This calculator is available for $12-$20 (maybe less).  Please try to put your child’s name on the calculator to prevent others from saying it is theirs.  The calculators on phones may not be used in class.

**Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus/Calculus StudentsIf your child plans to pursue a path in college that involves higher math, you may want to consider purchasing a graphing calculator.  This calculator will cost more, but may save you from having to purchase another one later.  Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus students will be using graphing calculators.  There will be calculators available for them to use in class, but it will be a disadvantage if they do not have one to practice with at home.  A calculator similar to the ones used in class would be Casio FX-9750GII.  Make sure to hang onto the User’s Guide that comes with them.  There is also graphing software and applications available.  Demos is a commonly used application that can be accessed on the internet.  A lot of colleges are using this in place of graphing calculators.

Notebook or 3 Ring Binder and Plenty of Loose-Leaf Paper:

Algebra I/Support:  3 ring binder

There will be worksheets and handouts to add to the hand-written notes your child will take.

Therefore, a 3-ring binder is best so that the student can add the handouts/worksheets at the appropriate place.

*Mrs. Bennett’s Algebra I/Support:  A 3-Ring Binder Notebook will be required as a quiz grade for each 9-weeks.

Notebooks are fine for other math classes.

Pencils:  Plenty of pencils.  At least 4 dozen for the year.  Ink will not be permitted in math class

 Small ruler

Graph paper (Optional) Graph paper will be provided but you may want to have a little at home for extra practice.  One pack of 25 sheets should do for all four years of high school.

**9th grade students:  Please review multiplication tables this summer.
