This week, we're shining the spotlight on Brittany Place, our amazing Physical Education Teacher!
Mrs. Place is proving that physical education is about so much more than just playing games, it's about building healthy habits, developing confidence, and inspiring a lifelong love of movement!
Through her creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication, Mrs. Place has brought some exciting initiatives to our PE program! From the monthly Golden Sneaker Award, where classes compete to see who can run the most laps in two minutes, to her Food of the Month and Muscle of the Month features, she's finding fun and meaningful ways to teach our Panthers about fitness, nutrition, and how their bodies work!
What makes Mrs. Place so special is the intentionality behind everything she does. She's not just encouraging students to be active, she's giving them the knowledge, motivation, and tools to make healthy choices that can benefit them for a lifetime.
We are so fortunate to have an educator who puts so much heart, energy, and purpose into helping our students become the healthiest, happiest versions of themselves!

Our 6th grade Panthers had an exciting opportunity to visit the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department as part of their Career Exploration program! Students got an up-close look at the important work firefighters do, learned about the skills and dedication the job requires, and discovered what it means to serve and protect our community.

Whether she’s teaching our youngest Panthers, supporting students and colleagues, continuing her own education, or contributing to the many things that make FES such a special place, Mrs. Nicely is an integral part of our school community. Science was GLOWING in Mrs. Sites’s third grade Enrichment class at FES!
Our young scientist explored the fascinating world of bioluminescence and biofluorescence through a hands-on investigation! The learning began by reading under a black light before experimenting with sea fireflies. Using water and a mortar and pestle, the student activated the chemicals inside the tiny organisms and watched as they produced an incredible blue glow!
The student described the reaction perfectly: “At first the sea fireflies looked like blue stars and when you broke it up, it kind of smeared across the bottom. When you stirred it up, it made the water all blue.”
So what makes them glow? Oxygen in the water reacts with chemicals in the sea fireflies’ bodies, creating the luminescent reaction they observed!
Next up: putting those observations, discoveries, and conclusions to work by writing the lab report!
