Today, 3rd graders spent the morning at the river. Experience Learning mentors discussed the river's ecosystem, purity of the water, and lifecycles. We also caught a lot of crawfish. We had a lot of fun! Thank you, Experience Learning for sharing your knowledge with our students.
Our very own Miss Catherine Eye and her sister queen, Autumn Crites, presented FES's Communities In Schools Coordinator, Mrs. Kisamore, with a generous donation of school supplies and hygiene items! Thank you so much, girls!!!
To celebrate Treasure Mountain Festival, last week each grade at FES participated in different activities to learn about the heritage of West Virginia and Pendleton County. Thursday 1st grade went to Fort Seybert. They learned about life during the time of the Civil War, toured a log cabin and got to try their hand at ax throwing. On Friday the Dulcimer Dames came to play music using traditional instruments. Kindergarten got to learn how to use some of those instruments, use Limber Jacks and dance to traditional folk music. 1st grade learned about WV Fauna and made paper coon skin hats. 2nd grade went on a Scavenger hunt to find items from the past that were hidden on the playground. 3rd grade listened to the story of Treasure Mountain and then built log cabins out of pretzels. 4th grade walked to the Community Building where Holly Hubbs demonstrated spinning wool, and Vickie Skavenski demonstrated weaving the bottom of a chair. They also walked around to view the quilts and voted for their favorite one. Mrs. Lambert and her daughter Ms. Keely came to teach the 5th graders how to play marbles. 6th grade took a fieldtrip to the Bogg's House Museum. After touring the museum, they walked to see the three houses of the ladies they learned about at the museum. What a fun way to learn about our local history. We appreciate all the work that was done by members of the community and FES staff to make this such a great experience for them.
Students in 3A enjoyed TMF traditions by listening to the legend of the treasure, creative writing, exploring historical items, and making log cabins.

Today PreK - 3rd grade learned about bus safety with Bobby Keesecker, one of our Pendleton County Bus Drivers. Bus safety is so important. We appreciate all of our amazing bus drivers!
Last week we celebrated Grandparents' Day. Grandparents were invited to join their student for lunch. We had over 200 grandparents come over two days. It was wonderful to see how much it meant to both the kids and the grandparents to spend time together.
Vice Commander George Armstrong and Quartermaster Steven O'Toole, of the Sugar Grove VFW Post 9666, paid a special visit to our 6th grade classes. They taught the importance of our flag, demonstrated how it should be raised and lowered, and how to properly fold it. They also presented our school with a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol.
Don't forget tomorrow, Wednesday, September 17th, is "Bank at School. Please make sure your student brings their application with them if it has not already been returned, and their money to deposit.

The first "Bank at School" this year will be on Wednesday, September 17th. If you have not filled out the application, you can still do that, then return it to the school or PCB. This is a great way to introduce saving money to your children. "Bank at School" will be every month on the 3rd Wednesday.
CIS will be hosting a celebration with Penny our county therapy dog for the class with the highest attendance for the month of September!
